Protect your belongings!

Don’t leave your keys in your car. 

–Lock your house and install a deadbolt if you don’t already have one.
–Close your garage door after taking out the trash.
–Consider buying an alarm system.

 

Check Around…
•Washing Machine – hoses specifically,  •Replace them every 3-5 years.
•Dishwashers
•Water heaters  (avg. life span 8 -10 years)
•Toilets (about 10% of water losses)
•Under sinks

–Smoke alarms have a life span
–Don’t steal batteries from your smoke alarms
–Placement should be on every floor of the house, and in every sleeping room

 

Regularly maintain your home and the site it is built upon
–Look for positive drainage away from your home, especially around down spouts
–Replace items that have reached or exceeded their intended life span
–Have your fireplace flue inspected and cleaned by a professional chimney sweep!

 

Check your clothes dryer...
–for lint and vacuum away all lint build up
–for proper venting
•No plastic hoses.  •Use 4” galvanized sheet metal piping
•Find the shortest/straightest distance to vent your dryer
•Dryer fires are a common hazard, and one that is very preventable
 

Winter is here, so be prepared for Frozen Pipes and Ice Dams

–Tis the season, don’t let it happen to you
•Make sure all pipes are located in heated spaces, and redirect them if they are not or add pipe insulation

 

Be safe over the holidays!
–Candle safety – Outlaw them at your house if you can get away with it.
•Keep candles out of reach of children and pets and in plain sight at all times
•Trim the wicks to reduce soot damage
–Use the proper extension cords outside and inside, and don’t cover them up
